Three years ago, 16-year-old Connor joined us as an apprentice at our Hinckley Borough Council depot after leaving school. We are pleased to announce that he has just qualified and is now a fully-fledged HGV Technician. Congratulations Connor!

Connor’s grandad was a mechanic and haulage truck driver, which influenced his decision to work with HGVs.

Connor: “I can be academic, but I prefer practical work and I didn’t want to just go to college. I’ve come on massively over the past few years. I knew nothing about HGVs when I joined, but thanks to the training and encouragement from the team at SFS I have gained a whole new range of skills.”

Connor’s career progression has only just begun and there is a training plan already in place to ensure he continues to grow and develop. Next on the agenda is gaining his HGV licence, as well as participating in a variety of vehicle specific training courses.

Ricky Stretch, Workshop Controller at Hinckley depot: “I’m proud of Connor and his achievement in qualifying as an HGV Technician.  He is hard working and always willing to tackle any task that we put in front of him. I’ve been really impressed with his attitude and work ethic.”

Connor: “SFS have been brilliant; they support me every step of the way in my career and if I have any problems Ricky is always there to help me and guide me in the right direction.”
